The Russell Family
We are the Russell family and joined the Signs for Hope team full-time in January 2022. We are now serving with this organization in Asheville, NC as missionaries. Marc serves as the Information Technology Director while Angela serves as the Training and Curriculum Development Director. We have 4 children ages 19, 16, 14, and 11. Our youngest, Noel, is profoundly deaf. Marc’s passion for the Deaf community began way back in 1993. While serving in the Air Force he worked with a civilian employee in his department who was Deaf. He was greatly influenced after being exposed and immersed in the Deaf culture for 2 years. After completing his service with the Air Force he returned home and enrolled in American Sign Language (ASL) courses from a local community college and over many years he pursued opportunities to get involved in the Deaf community where ever he lived.
Angela became exposed to Deaf culture and ASL through Marc. Throughout our marriage of almost 24 years, she had a passion for adoption (specifically China) while Marc has had a passion for Deaf community and ASL. Because God is wiser than we are, He combined these desires by leading us to adopt Noel, who was 7 years old at the time, from China the summer of 2018.
We are thankful to be in Asheville partnering with Signs for Hope to grow, learn and serve along side an incredible Deaf community. We also have been loved and welcomed into fellowship with the Asheville Deaf Church here each week. We are encouraged by their love of Christ and desire to make Christ known among the Deaf community both locally and globally.
Clearly, Signs for Hope and Asheville Deaf Church are amazing resources for our family and deaf daughter. We cannot express the gratitude we have for God’s gracious provision here. We know God’s heart for blended deaf/hearing families, just like ours, is greater discipleship and gospel centered relationships. We are excited and humbled thinking about how God will use us a bridge to help facilitate this healing and unity.
